I'm so confused. Where exactly does Samoa stand on the matter of Fa'afafine?

With the gender so prevalent in our islands, so accepted by our people, especially with Uncle Tui (Samoa's (in)famous prime minister Tuilaepa that is) even declaring himself the patron of the Fa'afafine association, who'da thought Samoa actually has a law against female impersonation....

There's also a law against sodomy, but according to Fa'afafine Association president Roger Stanley, don't confuse female impersonation with h***sexuality.

I 100% agree with her! Him.

hmmm....

Samoa considers decriminalising female impersonations

Samoa's transgender community has welcomed proposed government reforms to allow men to partake in 'female impersonations'.

But the country's main transgender association says it hopes outsiders will not take advantage of the proposed changes to the 50-year-old Crimes Act.

"We don't want it to open up doors to h***sexuality or gay men who are willing to just come in and think they can have a relationship with other men openly," Fa'afafine Association President Roger Stanley told Pacific Beat.

Mr Stanley said his group's roots were embedded in Samoan culture rather than the international gay community, and that Fa'afafine members' sexuality was not necessarily linked to h***sexuality.

"We stick to our traditional and our very native exhibition of the work of a female," he said.

"It's our chosen roles that we decided to act like women and perform women's chores. But not necessarily our sexual orientation, I think that's something else."

interesting...

I got to hand it to Samoans aye...like they will accept them dressing up like girls but when they start having boyfriends then it becomes an issue...I have an uncle and he use to date a real 44, and she was so pretty it was not funny how girly she looked...but we did not mind that he was having a sexual relationship with her, because it something that is private and something that they find special...e sa'o ai le tala above..."It's our chosen roles that we decided to act like women and perform women's chores. But not necessarily our sexual orientation, I think that's something else."...let them be what we have accepted them to be, don't mix the sexuality with the reality...alofa

if "third gender" takes a wife will that be a lesbian relationship? "girl" on girl must be ok. just never ever any p*** up the pu'kio. :hmmm:

I 100% agree with her! Him.

There!! who are they? male or female?..LMAOooooooo

They are human...whether they are 44's or Lesbians they are human... :asino:

LMAOOOooo@Sekia101.

I never did consider them animals..hahahaha..just wondering whether they should be address as male or female..hahahaha..chooohoooooooo

LMAOOoooooo

I share your confusion. I respect fa'afafines in every way. Let's be honest, many of them, well, many of which I know personally & professionally play a big role in Samoa's society. Who do you think does most of the work behind the Miss beauty pageants ? The fa'afafines. Who does many of the floral/fabric arrangements for many public events and church functions? The fa'afafines. I'm sure there are numerous other things they contribute to our Samoan society - but what I'm trying to say is that they are doing a world of good for our people. But how do we fully accept the views of the Western culture? It contradicts with SO MUCH of our Samoan standards.

Who is to say they will not fight for Gay Marriage?
Who is to say they will not challenge their individual rights - which includes
many of the other things that go against our Samoan values?
Who is to say they can't?

Therefore, I play the devil's advocate. We are stepping into a gray area Samoa, whether we like it or not.

I

Simple, Samoa doesn't need to accept the western cultural views. Why would Samoa need to measure its culture by the western standards? Samoas views are whole kn itself. I live in Vegas and I wear my ie lava proud cause it's a part of our culture and it's more comfortable than shorts. I don't care what people may think because I know our Samoan culture is superior to the western world. Adolf Hitler, for all his doings once said something that should be remembered, "Don't compare yourself to others, if you do so, youre insulting yourself"

That's bullcrap and hoggwash. Transgender, fafafine or what ever you call it is still gay. This fafafine stuff is really embarrassing. I still wonder how a group or a culture of people allow this to happen. It ain't natural and normal. It is plain disgusting and appauling point blank. What kind of culture allows men to dress and act like women. Nah,,,, these guys chose to be like this. If you gonna act like a woman, dress like a woman, and do what women do to guys but instead your man???? Nah these people are either confused or stupid.

wow!! would you like a stake with your prejudice? A.P.M MACHE :hmmm: no comment

hmmm...how can I say this without offending anyone....Its a choice! what's right and what's wrong...only God will judge that...as for us to say....hmmm.... we can only reach out to them by showing them love and believe that one day God will show them their true identity his way...but again if anyone is offended by what I'm posting...fa'amalie atu, everyone was born given a choice to choose who they want to be..as far as not given a choice if anyone was abused in any form, fashion, shape or however, than I'm sorry for you, only God can heal you internally, IF, you let Him....I leave you with this thought..."God loves everyone regardless of your choices, who you want to be girl or guy or whatever...but He hates, and its biblical, He Hates sin...now define sin...we enter this world with nothing...and we all will leave this world with nothing...sin-its in the Bible...not my words, but the creator of the universe...love you all!
