A St Mary’s College student has been expelled after a sexually explicit video she had taken of herself circulated to cell phones across Samoa. The sex video was also reportedly posted on the internet.

The video depicts the 16-year-old girl in a sexual activity.Director of Catholic Education, Ae’au Chris Hazelman said the girl’s actions have embarrassed the Catholic Education system and her family.

The incident, he said, was the final straw for the student who underwent disciplinary actions with the school before. He did not reveal the identity of the girl but confirmed that she is a Year 12 student.

“The principal and teachers decided to expel her because she was punished before and was given one final chance,” said Ae’au. “Once this video of her was found last week on the school compound the decision to expel her was finalised.”He said the incident was the first of its kind to be reported.

“We have dealt with alcohol, poor sportsmanship, teenage relationships and many other scenarios but this time we are dealing particularly with technology and how fast it spreads.” Ae’au warned students and parents to be cautious about the technological advances of today and how it is being misused.

He said parents should always monitor how their children are using such devices. The Director offered a public apology on behalf of the school for the actions of this girl.“She messed up, she made a big mistake and she is very sorry,” said Ae’au.

“But let this be a lesson to all students not just students from Catholic schools. It is a pity, a real pity but it is a harsh lesson.”The video was taken at home in the privacy of her room but those with the technical ‘know how’ had distributed it to cell phones and posted it on the internet.

“Our children are now part of a global problem, we ask parents to work together so that they are always aware of how their children use such devices and the content or material that they are exposed to.”St Mary’s College is saddened by what has happened but this has not stopped them from helping the troubled teen.

The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) met last Saturday to discuss the issue.Ae’au said parents were concerned for the young girl and her wellbeing. The sisters from the school are now visiting her on a regular basis and offer counseling and help with her school work. However, the Director admits that an incident involving the girls was bound to happen.

“It has always been the boys causing all the riots and problems and now we have an incident involving a girl.” The video triggered the school fights in town last Thursday. “The school fights last Thursday was purely and specifically caused because students from other schools had made insulting comments to St Mary’s girls about the video.

”He said St Joseph’s College students then stepped in to help their “sister school”.“It is natural that when someone insults your sister you do not stand by and watch, so this is why the boys reacted the way they did.”

Catholic Education is taking the issue very seriously and the parents of the girl have been notified about what has happened.Ae’au stresses that in such incidents one must not point the finger but find ways to solve the problem.

Yesterday, Ae’au issued a public apology in Samoan. Here it is in full:“Faasalalauga Kolisi a Sagata Malia VaimosoOu te faatulou atu Samoa i ou Sa ma Faiga, o le i’a e iviivia e leai se tasi e mafai ona ia autalaina.

  • k - , it might be an International Issue, when it comes to PTA & Board of Education.
It's a Nations job to monitor, perhaps.. hehee

but, I'm not sure where the reflection might take place as to pro-say where, "The Public Is Concern." , seeing the school assoicates its self with religious scorns..

ae ole mea lea e concern ai isi matua pea oo latou fanau ile aoga.
I mean, my kid is only turning 9yrs old, has had a mobile phone since he was 5yrs old, doesn't even wanna know his own number.

I don't think, I even wanna spoil my child in collage with technology, if technology just wanna leap past them and into unsecure area of cyber flares, gosh - LEARN ALL THAT YOU CAN BE - // (homework) + [Schoolwork] = I didn't see the difference!..

Shot 4 the insite, atleast the School takes their principals of integrity to the core of respect, but this thing of mobiles at school, that's just gotta stop, it's not even a wonder our children whom, I might add are hitting the big P, don't understand love and committe sudicial, & then you wanna KACHING them with billions mings, 'gosh'.. hahaa, haha..

    - - - - - JusT make them understand the riskes that involve in their behaviour - - - - -

well, if you ain't a SCHOOL that's teaching teachnology such as mobiles and just how powerful in application it has, then - you most certainly will be on the news with fa'alavelaves, God is Good all the time?..
  • this has probably been happening for a long time.....just that somebody had the guts to actually get "technologically advanced" lol
    • awwww how sad stupid kids....smh
