I Remember when their vessel had first docked upon our SHORES
At first, I was UNSURE as of to their purpose
While the people of my village stood there AMAZED
Thinking to myself I began to SAY or question
From where did this big ship APPEAR
Out of thin AIR, out of NOWHERE
And the most important question of all is
Why is it that they come HERE?
You see me being a KING, these are THINGS
I had to EVALUATE
As my brain began to RACE
And my heart began to beat FAST
AS they finally MADE their WAY
From their boat to our LAND
And upon our SAND
In which he had first step FOOT
With this precious BOOK
That he declared to be so HOLY
Yet I noticed that he had held CLOSELY
Next to a tool I would COME to know later on in life as GUN
I knew right then, I should have told my people
To split, break, or RUN
Though WE are not DUMB, WE had heard him SAY
That HE, had COME in PEACE
But my BRAIN had translated his words into
We come as THIEVES
He said he was MISSIONARY
Though all I heard was MERCENARY, MERCENARY
But you SEE
The people of my village our so FRIENDLY, so generous and so KIND
That they gave this stranger for several days and several NIGHTS
The benefit of the DOUBT
Until one DAY when he tried to CHANGE our WAYS
And throw our culture OUT
He declared us savages UNTAMED
Can you imagine the nerve of this
GHOST-FACE trying to SAY
That the only true WAY
To civilization was through his BOOK
Thus I told him to take a second LOOK
My people have been doing this HERE for YEARS
Since the beginning of dawn we have been HERE
Our history is TIMELESS, we aint no new discovery
You didn't just come along and FIND US
He then REPLIED with a viscous LIE
And began to scream at the top of his LUNGS
That he was the SON of G,O,D,
And that he and his band of MERCENARIES
Were here to set us FREE
I asked the ofay if this is truly what he BELIEVED
And he said unto ME "Savage KING, who are you to question ME"
So I asked one of my warriors to take a pelu to his KNEE
Because once I seen him BLEED, I knew HE to could suffer DEFEAT
So I ORDERED my WARRIORS to ATTACK
But with one WAVE of the OFAYS hand I heard a thunderous CLAP (POW)
I looked BACK, to see the warrior who hit him with the pelu
Had been shot dead, right where him STAND
The killer slash preacher had RAN
THOUGH my MEN wouldn't let him GO
He tried to RELOAD, they beat him to PULP
The other mercenaries had ran for their lives, back to their BOAT
Leaving there CAPTAIN on this island STRANDED and all ALONE
Later on that evening I fed his FLESH to the FISH
And BROKE BREAD with his BONES
I gave his CLOTHES unto the fire to burn away the funk of his COLOGNE
And in spite of all these things I did
To cleanse my island, my village, my HOME
In spite of all THAT
As I set thine eyes into the distance of this great blue SEA
I knew down DEEP, in my heart, they were coming BACK
One day soon, believe you ME
The MERCENARIES will BE BACK........

... aahh yes, this is the vid i listened to ... had me chuckling at the "GUN/RUN" line... nah we shoulda just swiped the metalic pieces from em and chased em off our isle :D ... mint verse POET ... lots of feeling behind it ... it came out well :)
Permalink Reply by Seattle Iese on January 18, 2012 at 7:02am You know, when I was a kid like 9years old I had this dream, just like what i wrote down, then a few years later when i was 12, my father told me a story about the first paalagi to show up on the island and what happened to them, the poem was birth from that some 13yrs later... Yeah that run/gun line is hillarious when you single it out like that :D thank you for the love. Question, do you think you could help me translate into Samoan?????????
.. aaww @ the story behind the poetry .. I LOVE THAT ... when poets can elaborate 'from whence' their verses of knowledge derived ... and my FA'ASAMOA suxXx !!! ... no lie poet ... i can speak it? i can read it? i can even dabble in some chat conversations in it ... but its all "everyday spoken" lingo ... no where near the capacity you would need to translate something this profound.
... there are natives on 1SA that are gifted Samoan speakers, writers, etc ... roam some more up in the VILLE and i'm sure you'll find one to appease your thirst for translation... good hunting :D
... i must say though ... the SAMOAN LANGUAGE is a very passionate, very *siiighs* SEXY dialect .... you could very well smite some of ur readers if ur not careful :) ... jusssssayin.
Permalink Reply by Seattle Iese on January 18, 2012 at 7:35am hmmm interesting, how would I smite them.
... smite ... to have been smitten? :) ... to be swept off their feet with the strategic manipulation of the Native Tongue in such a way .... they'd hang onto every syllable you utter ... even in silence.
... or sumn lydat .. LOL
