Romantic comedies are what I like to write. I don't know too many female writers who write anything other than...however, I did write one action flick with one actor in mind.

I'd like to hear what types of genre you're into.

I don't know if I could do a romantic comedy... I think I'm too cynical lol...

My favourite genres are historical fiction and anything with a little comedy and mysticism in it.

My favourite books to read are character studies from the perspective of history, family and ethnicity. These include:

Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - Michael Chabon
The God of Small Things - Arundhati Roy (yes I like Indian writers lol)
Hotel Honolulu - Paul Theroux
The Red Tent - Anita Diamant

But when I'm taking a break from the heavy stuff, I also love reading adventure / thriller type novels by writers such as Sydney Sheldon (esp. Windmill of the Gods), Wilbur Smith (esp. The Courtney and Egyptian novels) and I can handle a little bit of Dan Brown, but only for the historical stuff...

Anyway... I notice that the ideas I have for stories (novels or screenplays) are more epic and adventurous with the 'romance' part incorporated rather than focal...

And now I will leave you alone and let somebody else talk for once... hehehehe...

Thanks for starting this group by the way!! :D
:hmmm: let me think. Where do I begin? It was a dark and stormy night. The loud reverberation from the thunder cutting through the silence of the valley below; like horsemen off to battle... ok ok I'm not a story like some talented people in here but I do enjoy reading.

I enjoy reading thrillers & suspense, unsolved mysteries, conspiracy theories, historical and science non-fictions and alot of myths.

Dean Koontz - From the corner of his eye
Wilbur Smith - The burning shore
Tom Clancy - The teeth of the tiger
Brad Thor - The lions of lucerne
V.C Andrews - Flowers in the Attic :rotfl:
...but why u wanna laugh for @ Flowers in the Attic?

you know that one is your favourite!

:P

Thanks for joining the group!!

p.s. OOH & I think Dean Koontz kicks Stephen King any day!
You know HGG as a matter of fact Flowers in the Attic is quite a powerful story. I wondered why the girls in the family went crazy over the whole saga and many more. I was forced to read something written by a female. So I did and guess what? I couldn't put it down because it got interesting. It's quite a sad story too.

Dean Koontz just makes everything intense and has you on the edge of your seat. He's one of my favorite authors for thrillers & suspense non fictions.
You know I'm only teasin about Flowers in the Attic... :D

.... I remember having to secretly read that series cause mum said I was too young for it hahaha.. had to hide it behind my collection of Robin McKinley & Terry Brooks... but yeah. It was probably the most um... scandalous story I'd ever read up till then lol... yes, powerful, too. One I'll never forget...
Romantic Comedies for me are easier to watch then write about. But as a writer in progress, there're are two secrets that I follow to help me write.

The first one is become the character, and act out that part. And if you get teased for talking to yourself, just keep in mind that you'll have the last laugh when your story gets acknowledged. That's provided the story is a good one :rotfl:

The second secret ... um  hehe "NICE TRY, I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO, AND IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK"

:o :o
However, I did write a story about a boy who secretly had a crush on a childhood friend, and was teased by his brother. But when he saw her again; he became tongue tied, and ran away. :rotfl:
Hahaha man that boy sounds like me when I first had my crush on a girl when I was at intermediate. I was all cool like that until I got to her and started stuttering and she pointed her finger at me and started laughing at me :muro:
Well, Dr. J is into pretty much any Genre as long as it has a good plot or storyline to follow, and keep me interested in reading more. But I can't really single out any specific Genre since I like to keep my options open to looking at different forms of writings. I feel that if would single my options down to specific Genre's than my focus will be narrowed to certain limitations of that Genre. You get where I'm coming from? lol. But yeah, I like all Genre's.

joda
War movies are my favorite yet Urban Situation Comedy is great too.
i can't say i enj0y any 0NE specific genre... because i enj0y anything that can keep me 0n my t0es && wanting m0re. but i d0 have a few favs!

d00msday c0nspiricy- Sidney Sheld0n
digital f0rtress- Dan Br0wn

these are just tw0 0f my favs.. i d0nt feel like listing all 0f them hahahha!!!!
