Someone with moral, value and empathy for others

Someone who can accept that their own feelings of fear will give them the strength to make it through dangerous situations.

They must have great tolerance for those who insult them.

Someone who will endure hardship and does not quit.

A hero is in it for the long haul. They do not run away at the first hint of trouble. They will fight for justice and peace until the end.
I like your opening, moral, value, and empathy. Very true for a hero!

Being able to accept fear, but will not let that consume them. But to use it as something to give them strength to make it through difficult situations. Good one!

Tolerance for those who insult them, true. The hero will not be loved by all, thats just a fact. He most likely will have to earn the people's trust, and acceptance, but as long as their are hero's , there will be villians.

Enduring hardship, and never quiting, is a must for any Hero. Without that quality, how could you be called a Hero?

A hero will always fight for peace and justice that is a must. No matter the situation, a Hero will put their life on the line to do whats right, and to protect the people. :D

joda
Side note: Joda was :hmmm: if there could be more than one Hero? Like a legion of Heroes? Similar to the "Justice League," "X-Men," "Fantastic Four," etc...

Could it be an "All-Poly" Hero team? I always was curious to see what a Polynesian Hero would look like... :D

I like my protagonists to be flawed.

I like for themes in my stories (the stories I read, anyway, because I haven't finished writing one in ages lol) to unfold through circ***tance, as my imperfect hero learns life lessons.

I think a protagonist that is real - with no heightened sense of morality - is easier for me to identify with... easier to empathize with.

So the five traits that I think are important for my protagonists to have are:

1. Character flaws. Lots of them.. lol. Think Melvin from As Good as it Gets... or the original Wolverine (from the Marvel comics)... all puny and angry and in love with someone he can't have...

2. A sense of introspect. I think the main character needs to be able to reflect and analyze him/herself within the story in order to really capture and engage the audience... kinda like Briony does in Atonement... or like Chris (the rookie soldier) in Platoon.

3. Endurance. I agree with my other protagonists, Security and Joda, on this one... but mostly because it's difficult to illustrate the themes in a story when the main character is always giving up and, like, not doing anything... hehehe.

4. Endearing. With all the character's imperfections, he or she's got to somehow be endearing to the audience.. like with Melvin from As Good As it Gets.. he's crazy, but he's funny... seriously annoying, but at the same time he has this underlying generosity he won't easily admit to...

5. Extraordinary Circ***tances. This is not a trait specifically for the protagonist, but it's necessary in order to develop the character. I think the perfect story happens when u chuck an ordinary person into an extraordinary situation and watch that character develop and unfold because of it.

Because I don't believe anyone is born a hero... :) ....

1) Apathetic : We don't want our hero to be a whimp (but maybe this can play to his or her advantage).

2) Resolve: He or she will have to follow thru with an objective, regardless of the danger or outcome.

3) Swagger: Our hero has to have some game!!!

4) Common Sense: Our hero should be streetsmart as well as booksmart

5) Fortitude: Our hero has to endure many setbacks both emotionally and physically.
Here are my qualities that a Hero must have... :D

Sacrifice Sacrifice is the forfiture of something highly valued for the sake of one considered to have a greater value or claim.

Determination Determination is a fixed intention or resolution; a firmness of purpse or resolve.

Loyalty Loyalty is the feeling of allegiance or the act of binding oneself to a course of action.

Courage Courage is that firmness of spirit and swell of soul which meets danger without fear.

Dedication Dedication is a selfless devotion; complete and whole hearted fidelity or the act of binding oneself to a course of action.

Intrepidity Intrepidity is firm, unshaken courage.

Valor Valor is courage exhibited in war, and can not be applied to single combats.

Selfless
Selfless is the quality of unselfish concern for the welfare of others and acting with less concern for yourself.

Conviction Conviciton is a fixed or strong belief; a necessity of the mind or an unshakable belief.

Focused Focused is the ability to direct one's energy toward a particular point or purpose; to concentrate one's energy.

Gallantry Gallantry is adventurous courage, which courts danger with a high and cheerful spirit.

Perserverance Perserverance is a persistent determination.

Fortitude Fortitude has often been styled "passive courage," and consists in the habit of encountering danger and enduring pain with a steadfast and unbroken spirit.

Bravery
Bravery is daring and impetuous courage, like that of one who has the reward continually in view, and displays his courage in daring acts.

Oohhh... hmmm..

lol

Are we talking 'HERO' here or protagonist?

Because if I could create a superhero.. wow... that's a whole other thing...

:)
oh sorry HGG, I kind of went off topic there... :rotfl: For some reason I have this "Hero" image stuck in my head... Must be all those movies I watched lately... :D I'll try not to deviate from the topic... what was it...? Protagonist! Yup I got it now! 8-) Though I cant think of anything right now for protagonist, I'll come back to this later... ^^'

joda :D
Loll... it's all good with me. Sorry I was just being that annoyin nerd u always get in class who thinks they know it all...

I'm like intrigued now, anyway... seriously going to dream myself up a hero...

yay!

:D
a protagonist- 1 to stand up for what is right on something and the equal treatment of a being
or thing.
2 can not turn their back on something; that is wrong; if they do; they will regret it for the rest of their life.
3 doing what is right for all being and things; when no one will do nothing to make change;
just like the old saying, evil wins when good do nothing to stop it.
4 want peace; and willing to do anything to complete the task at hand; willing to give their for it.
5 to have a love for anything that is justice. xD
Ooh.

1. History. (avenue for Sub-Plots) - or at least flash backs/flash forwards
2. Insight. (Emotionally, Religiously) or just a belief system of some sort
3. Motivation. (whatever reason for whatever they do) and a fierce motivation (kind of what charles mentioned)

and the rest has already been said :)

runs out.
