I'm sorry teacher (Mz Sega) for being random, but I love it when I learn a new Samoan word (i kinda pick up a new one every few days or so) and I thought it would be cool to share.

:)

If you've just learned a Samoan word you never knew before, please drop it here along with a definition and why you thought it was cool...

... you just might be teaching somebody else a new Samoan word.

One i learned only very recently:

MAUSALI

...my cousin said this means 'firm' as in, an unshakeable relationship or strong testimony of something. I'm not really sure how to use it in my own sentence, but I heard it in that one song, Lo'u Alofa ia Oe by Victor and Fanu (ft. Kas Futialo).. the line goes something like:

...e mausali le fa'amoemoe... ... whatever that means :rotfl:

But yeah. I just thought it was cool, cause I never knew that word before.. hehehe..
Yeahh I like 'olaga'..also 'ola' and 'olataga'

Learned: Auma

...I always knew that 'galu' means 'wave' (as in the waves of the ocean) but I learned 'auma' means the same ... probably the upu faaaloalo (respectful term) for galu, right?

Anyway learned it from that one song I think is hot...

Pei o auma e le fiu e fafati.. ou nei mata le fiu e va'ai aue le alofa.. ua tauaso i le maasiasi..

...which according to my sources lol.. means something like...

Just like the waves that never cease to break, my eyes never tire of gazing at you my love.. they're blinded by shyness...

or something like that.. lol

:rulez:
Nah sis....  good job... ive been busy and kept telling myself to revive the class but didnt have a chance.... Thanks.... okay lets see my word of the day is:

MATALASI its the other word for beautiful or beauty.... :D :D

Sau ta o ete matamata i le matalasi o si ou nu'u.

Come with me to see the beauty of my village.

Ok thats another word MATAMATA another word for see or watch or look...
sega, just correct me if i'm wrong... :D another word for, beauty:matagofie

ma'imoa:to see/watch/look

tu'u lafoa'i:abandoned/or left unattended

tia'i:throw away

o lo'u suafa:o lo'u igoa:my name

oute sau mai:i am from

alalafagaa:place your from or live

tulouna le paia ma le mamalu: a salutation to invited guest of a function....i think!? :hmmm:
o lo'u suafa lo'u igoa : my name

ok sis in this case you can not say o lo'u suafa if you are referring to yourself the right way to say it its o lo'u igoa

but if you are asking somebody you should say it like this

O ai lou suafa?

other that that everything looks great.... good job sis....
ma'imoa??? suga that means SICK CHICKEN! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: its MAIMOA
wow that's cool..i never thought that word in that song meant that..like i do know the song, but i never thought of finding out what it means..lol@ Hamo Geek Girl - i like how you translate that little part right there..i just like it**
Oh nice... I learned something new again! :)

*takes notes about 'lou suafa'*

I also learned a new word from Sega's Fagago about Tulauega...

Faiva

..i've heard this word a lot over the years, but I always thought it refered to just like.. work. As in... fai lau faiva or something like that... anyway, so I clicked when I read the Tulauega story and then I asked somebody.. lol.. and turns out faiva means to go fishing... right?

And since i love to go fishing lol.. i like this word...

:D
Oh yeah sis... in our Samoan language there are alot of words that have a lot of different meanings. just like your word FAIVA:

1. O lea o le a alu le faiva a Siaki ma Simi. / Siaki and Simi are going fishing.

2. O le faiva o le tina ma le tama o le taulogologo. / Mom and Dad's reponsibility is to remind.
So i was listening to my newfound old school Samoan jams and kept hearing this one phrase:

Loto momomo

...and I was thinking wow...sounds deep.. wonder what that is and why they keep repeating it.. so I asks mah moms lol.. and she says it means down or broken-hearted... awwwwwwwww...

lol
LOTO MOMOMO .. thanks HGG, always wanted to know what that meant as well!!!
Puapuaga - Disaster =]

I looked it up lol
ua o'o mai le puapuaga i si fafine : the disaster has overcome the poor women
xD
